ONYX + ALABASTER
Every year, designers (and those alike) eagerly await to hear what the Pantone Color of the Year is. Undoubtably, the color chosen tends to shift design trends and add a little inspiration to those living in a world of color. This year is unique because we not only have one Pantone color of the year, but two!
Meet our 2021 Pantone Colors of the Year: Ultimate Gray + Illuminating!
“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid, but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute
Naturally, gray + yellow are a perfect pair and can work well within any style of design. While I have to admit, yellow is certainly not a color we gravitate towards when designing, there are many ways to incorporate it into your home. As stated above, Illuminating can present as a sense of optimism + positivity, and everyone knows we need every bit of that this year. Yellow is best used as an accent color. Some go as far as using it as a bold chair design or piece of art. Others will use a pop of yellow to liven up a room with a floral arrangement or bowl of fruit, such as lemons.
Gray on the other hand is used in all areas of design. Categorized as a neutral, gray is a large color component for all furniture, wall colors + flooring. Gray is described as utilitarian and functional.
We scoured the internet in search of some inspiration of some of our favorite ways to incorporate both colors, in different ways! Enjoy!
